Maya is a high-end 3d computer graphic software package originally developed by Alias system corporation, but now owned by Autodesk as part of the media entertainment division.  Maya is used in the Animation,film and Tv industry as well as for computer and video games.

1.Modeling

Modeling is nothing but a digital sculpturing.  Modeling is an art and observation of every thing.  Software will be used as a tool to shape your imagination.  In modeling the artist will make a model depend upon the requirement of the client or his own imagination. Any 3D software will be used as a tool in this process.  Without software like Maya artist cannot implement his/her imagination or thought into reality.  To implement all the process Maya is very comfortable software.

Due to this reason studios are selecting Maya software for production.

Importance of sculpturing & drawing in Modeling:

Sculpturing is a man made three dimensional objects for recognition artist.  To be a modeling artist a person should learn what is sculpturing and drawing and what kind of quality it brings. If an artist understands this he can deliver high quality models than others who don’t know sculpturing and drawing.

2.Texturing
Texturing is an external property of an object.  We will make a models in 3D in solid color (it is default color).  Texturing artist applies different colors and textures to get realistic or cartoon look.

Here there are two things which influence more in texturing.

  • Technical part
  • Artistic part
Technical Part:

Coming to this here artist will working on unwrapping,
Material attributes, shaders and utilities.  For the materials like glass, bronze etc we use shaders.

  • Importance of painting and photoshop:
Texturing artist should learn the manual painting because that will give more command on colors and textures. Who will have the idea of painting that person can create a difference color world(custom created textures) of his imagination.

3. Lighting

Lighting is purely an environmental observation.  With the lighting we can get the realistic look of the scene or else the character. And we can maintain shadows as well as differentiate the same scene by controlling the lights and its attributes.

For lighting who having interest in photography will be the best lighting artist.

4. Rigging

As everybody knows animation is giving movement to the required object or a character. To animate that we required control on the character.

So giving that controls to the object or character is called rigging. In this process we need to study muscle system, different expressions, skeleton formation and bone system.
Based on the skeleton artist will apply the joints, bones and controls.  It is purely technical job.

5. Animation
Simply we can define animation is giving life to the lines. In animation sketching plays very important role. To draw the strong poses animator need to learn sketching and himself he act out the scene.  So to apply the facial expressions and staging the scene animator should be an actor.

6. Dynamics

Dynamics plays more technical and important role in Maya. We can animate object and character in animation. But coming to special effects (smoke, fire, water, hair and fur etc), it will be implemented in dynamics. Beside the dynamics knowledge in compositing softwares like After Effects, Combustion and digital fusion is mandatory For game developers and film industry dynamics is an hot area..

7. Rendering

Rendering is a final area in the 3D production pipeline.  This is the region which we can specify the quality of the output depends upon the client requirement. Rendered output nothing but final output.
